In one of the most surprising developments of the summer, Celtic have continued to be linked with a move for Ross Barkley. Not many people would have expected the club to be in the same conversation as the Chelsea midfielder, especially since they have Matt O’Riley and David Turnbull already at Parkhead, but all the noise around a potential move is impossible to ignore.

Barkley has not been able to get anywhere near the Chelsea first-team in recent times and as a result, a move away from the club might be the best step for him this summer, in order to get some regular playing time.

A number of Premier League clubs are believed to be interested in him, but the links between him and Celtic have just refused to go away. In fact, they moved up a notch today, as rumours suggest that the Hoops have submitted a loan offer for Barkley.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are not the favourites to land Barkley as they cannot afford to pay all of the star’s wages. The Hoops have offered to pay a significant portion of his salary though, in their attempt to bring him to Parkhead.

While most fans have not seemed to be excited by the idea of a move for Barkley, he could actually be a solid signing for the club.

First of all, he has not been injured much in recent years. It is just that he has not gotten a lot of first-team football. So fitness is not expected to be an issue.

Also, It might feel like he has been around for ever, but Barkley is in fact, still just 28 years of age and very much in the middle of his prime. And on top of his game, he is a very good player, capable of playing in both the number 10 and number 8 role with equal ease.
