It was a major surprise when Tom Rogic decided to leave Celtic at the end of last season. He had remained at Parkhead through several ups and downs, and had been on the fringes of the first-team picture for quite a while, struggling with fitness and form. Under the management of Ange Postecoglou though, the Australian international was once again a starter for the Hoops and played a big role in their Premiership and League Cup double.

Thus, it was curious that he would end up leaving, just after getting his Celtic career back on track. Since his exit, he is yet to find a new club though.

There were rumours of a big money move to Indonesia but that never materialised and rumours of a reunion with Neil Lennon at Omonia Nicosia also seem to have been wide of the mark. There have been suggestions that he might not be interested in playing in the A-League either.

And now, it looks like retirement could actually be a possibility for Rogic, at just 29 years of age. As reported by the Daily Record, Australian journalist Dave Lewis wrote for beIN Sports:

"“While back in the UK after a brief trip to Australia, there are no indications of where next for Rogic, 29, with his British agent Josh Barnett declining to comment on the path ahead. There have even been suggestions the mercurial Rogic might simply slip quietly into retirement after his nine-year stay with the Hoops.”"

Shock claim made about Rogic’s future after his Celtic exit

Could Rogic actually end up hanging his boots at just 29 years of age, after playing some of the best football of his career for Celtic last season?

It goes without saying that he has football left in the tank and if he did end up walking up from the game so soon, it would be a shame.

But then, at the end of the day, it is his decision and if he believes that retiring is the best move for his future then we can only support him.

Of course, these are only suggestions at this point of time and nothing solid has emerged yet, so Rogic is very much an active player, unless he announces something otherwise.
