Celtic find themselves in an interesting position right now. The club got their transfer business done early this summer, which is great, as it gave the new players time to gel into their new surroundings even before the season started. At the same time though, the possibility of making more additions to their squad over the coming weeks if the right opportunity presents itself, has not been ruled out.
Something happening down South might be of interest to them as well though, as Manchester City could potentially hand Celtic a cash boost this summer.
Manchester City recently let Oleksandr Zinchenko join Arsenal. Pep Guardiola’s side have been left scrambling to sign a left-back though, after Chelsea swooped in to sign Marc Cucurella, who had appeared to be their top target.
Thus, in a transfer merry-go-round, they could be looking to sign a left-back from Arsenal. As reported by The Telegraph (via Mirror), Manchester City could turn to Kieran Tierney, a proven left-back in the Premier League, rather than going after players with little to no experience in English football.
Manchester City could hand significant cash boost to Celtic this summer
Celtic will surely be keeping a close eye on the situation. Tierney had departed Parkhead in a Scottish record £25 million deal to join Arsenal in the summer of 2019.
Celtic also have a sell-on clause though. While it is unclear how much that is, some rumours have suggested that it could up to 15 per cent.
That could turn out to be a significant figure if Manchester City do indeed end up signing Tierney. In the past, it has been suggested that a transfer fee around £50 million would be required to sign him from Arsenal. It is not hard to see the Gunners demanding a figure in that range, especially after seeing Cucurella join Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal that could rise up to £62 million with add-ons.
