The summer transfer window is edging closer to an end, with less than three weeks remaining before it slams shut and if Celtic are taken into consideration, the Scottish champions have done a brilliant job so far, signing the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alexandro Bernabei, Aaron Mooy, Benjamin Siegrist, Jota and Daizen Maeda. They have also brought in Moritz Jenz on loan from Lorient.

Having played two games, Ange Postecoglou’s side have won both, scored five goals and conceded just one, currently topping the table.

The possibility of Celtic making more additions to their squad has not been ruled out yet. But at the same time, there are a few players, who could do with time away from the club.

Mikey Johnston appears to be someone who is expected to struggle for playing time this season. And as a result, it is very possible that he might head out on loan before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Celtic player told that he is free to leave on loan

As reported by Football Scotland, Johnston is weighing up a number of loan options as he prepares to leave Celtic, as he has been told he is free to spend the season elsewhere. Postecoglou is believed to be keen for him to play regular first-team football.

Belgian club, Standard Liege, have been linked with a potential loan move for Johnston but there are believed to be other options across Europe as well.

Emerging through the youth ranks at Celtic, Johnston was one of the most highly rated players in all of Scotland and he had made a very promising start to his senior career at Parkhead as well. Since then, he has struggled badly with both form and fitness though, and is nowhere near the first-team at the moment. Thus, a loan move could help him to bring his career back on track.
