Ange Postecoglou has enjoyed a great time since arriving as the manager of Celtic last summer. There were very few expectations around the club back then, having finished 25 points behind the Rangers and trophyless in the 2020/21 campaign. But the Hoops ended up winning a Premiership and League Cup double against all odds. Thus, the former Australian national team manager deserves immense credit for the job that he has done.

Another man that deserves credit though is John Kennedy. Many fans wanted the club to part ways with him after the disaster that was the 2020/21 season. He got some redemption last time around though and clearly is an important part of Postecoglou’s coaching team.

But the Celtic assistant manager has been linked with a Parkhead exit recently. Rumours have suggested that he could potentially be offered the chance to become the next FC Midtjylland manager.

Postecoglou was recently asked about the matter and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, he said:

"“You’re best placed to ask John about that, not me. From my perspective, I don’t read the newspaper, so excuse me if I’m not up to speed with what the latest news is.“He’s had a fantastic managerial journey so far in terms of gaining experience and knowledge. He’s worked with some fantastic managers.“He’s built up his expertise through different areas of the game. He started off in the junior ranks, he’s done some scouting, and he’s tried to make sure he’s as well-rounded as he possibly can be.“He’s no different to anyone else at this football club. If people identify him as someone who can help their organisation, then it’s up to the individuals to make those decisions.“John is a really important part of what we do here, he’s an important part of my set-up, he leads a lot of the areas with respect to our football, so he’s a valuable asset to this club.”"

Postecoglou reacts to rumours of Kennedy possibly leaving Celtic

The fact that Postecoglou did not rule out the possibility of Kennedy leaving might be a worry. Thus, this could very well be more than just a rumour.

It remains to be seen if that is indeed the case and there is no point in speculating over it until something solid does not end up happening regarding the matter.

If Kennedy does end up leaving Celtic this summer or anytime soon, it would be a blow without a doubt. He was a player for the club and has been in a coaching role for a long time as well, under different managers.

Thus, his knowledge of Celtic and Scottish football as a whole is immense and losing that could turn out to be a problem for Postecoglou. At the end of the day, this is just his second season at Parkhead even though he might already have become a cult favourite among the fans.

At the same time though, if Kennedy did end up leaving, it would not be hard to understand his desire to be a manager of his own.
