Celtic have been linked with a long list of players in recent days and weeks, after it emerged that the club were not done in the summer transfer window and will remain active. The Hoops have strengthened their squad but there are still a few areas which could do with reinforcements. Now, it remains to be seen if additions are made or not.

There has been speculation for a while about the club making a move for another striker. And the name of Marseille’s Bamba Dieng has been brought up recently as a potential signing for Celtic.

The Senegal international has shown a lot of promise during his time at Marseille but is expected to be on the move this summer. But it is very unlikely that he will be ending up at Celtic despite that.

Fabrizio Romano tweeted out regarding Dieng’s situation:

Dieng update pretty much ends Celtic transfer rumour

Thus, while it looks like Dieng will be moving soon, it looks like there is very little chance that he will be heading to Parkhead.

Firstly, Celtic are not a club that Romano has mentioned. And secondly, and more importantly, it looks like it will take a transfer fee around €15 million in order to sign Dieng from Marseille.

That would shatter Celtic’s transfer record and it is almost a guarantee that they will not be shelling out that kind of a figure, especially since they already have some pretty good options up top.

Both Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis have been brilliant in Celtic colours in recent times, even though they have had their injury problems. Beyond them, Daizen Maeda can play up top as well, even though that does not look like his best position. And it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Albian Ajeti, as he is struggling for playing time.
