Celtic find themselves in a very good position at this point of time. Not only have they won both of their Premiership games till now but it also looks like the club have already completed most of their transfer business for the summer as well and the squad is pretty much settled. Although, it must be pointed out that the idea of making more additions has not been ruled out yet.
It remains to be seen how things go from here but one area that the Hoops could do with more additions in is their midfield. Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton, both decided to leave at the end of last season. On the other hand, the only player they have added to the middle of the park is Aaron Mooy.
There are question marks over whether Mooy can fill in the void left by the two though, especially since his early appearances for the club have not been particularly impressive. Thus, on paper, the midfield looks weaker than it was last season and could do with a bit more strengthening.
Recently, one name that has been brought up is that of Alex Collado. There have been conflicting reports about the Hoops’ interest in the player. But if the club do end up signing the Barcelona midfielder, it has the potential to be a transfer masterstroke.
Signing Collado could turn out to be a masterstroke for Celtic
Collado was very highly rated while coming through the youth ranks at Barcelona but has never managed to make his mark at the senior level.
He did spend a promising loan spell at Granada last season though. While mostly known for his skill and dribbling ability, there are more qualities to Collado’s game though.
The biggest could be his relentless pressing and tackling off the ball. Statistically, it was one of the best in Europe last season amongst midfielders.
Thus, Celtic’s rumoured interest in Collado makes a lot of sense as that is a very important part of Postecoglou’s style of football. As a result, the Spaniard could be a very good fit in this team.
Also, Postecoglou has shown the ability to get the best out of underperforming players. Jota is a brilliant example of that. Could the manager unlock the unfulfilled potential of someone like Collado as well?
