Celtic have been linked with a move for Barcelona’s Alex Collado today. It is safe to say that the news has come out of the blue. The Hoops are believed to be still active, and open to the idea of signing more players. But even then, not many would have predicted that another attacking midfielder would be on top of their list.

It must be pointed out though that Tom Rogic has not really been replaced this summer. Aaron Mooy has been brought in but he is expected to play a deeper role in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Recently, Celtic were linked with a move for Chelsea’s Ross Barkley as well, and now, the name of Collado is doing the rounds of the rumour mill, with the Hoops believed to have made an enquiry about the player already.

And now, it looks like Celtic might have an advantage in the race to sign him as well, as a result of their place in the Champions League. As tweeted out by Albert Roge, Collado would like to play in European competition. Other than the Hoops, Olympiacos and two La Liga teams are also interested in the Barcelona midfielder.

Celtic have been handed boost in their chase to sign Collado from Barcelona

Someone like Collado would certainly be an interesting signing for Celtic. His attributes could actually be a very good fit in Postecoglou’s style of football.

At the same time, it must also be pointed out that Collado is very versatile and can play in several positions. He can operate on the wings and further deeper in midfield as well if the situation calls for it. As a result, he could be someone who could fill in a number of roles in this team.

Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic are actually able to bring the Barcelona youth academy graduate to Parkhead this summer.
