Ryan Christie makes huge claim about why he left Celtic

Ryan Christie had made a very bright start under the management of Ange Postecoglou last season and many felt that Celtic needed to hold onto him. Unfortunately, he would be gone very soon, departing Parkhead in order to join Bournemouth in the Championship, in a move that raised a lot of eyebrows.

In many ways, it has paid off for Christie though, as Bournemouth managed to gain promotion and are back in the Premier League once again.

They made a winning start to their 2022/23 Premier League campaign as well, with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa, who are currently managed by Steven Gerrard. Christie did not start for the Cherries on the day but ended up coming off the bench.

Christie has been quite open about his decision to leave Celtic since joining Bournemouth and he has spoken about it recently once again. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, he told the Daily Mail:

"“These are the games I was desperate to play in. I now have this opportunity to play against the best club sides in the world, so it feels really exciting.“This was why I left Celtic: to play in the Premier League, to get that chance, to show that I could handle it. Well, now I’m here. Now I have that chance.”"

While there might have been quite a bit of controversy around Christie leaving Celtic for Bournemouth, at the end of the day, he is not the first player who has departed Parkhead in order to play in England, and he certainly will not be the last either.

He took a major risk by going to a club that was in the Championship and fortunately for him, that has paid off, and they are now playing in the Premier League.

On the other hand, it is safe to say that Celtic did not really feel Christie’s absence either, on their way to winning a Premiership and League Cup double last season. Tom Rogic did a great job as the starting attacking midfielder for the Hoops while it looks like they have pulled off a transfer masterstroke by signing Matt O’Riley from MK Dons in January.
