Celtic’s biggest strength since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager last summer, has been their ability to pick out players who will fit their style of football. Of course, there have been a few moves which have not worked out, for one reason or another, but overall, their record has been stunning over the past few transfer windows. So much so that one of their signings is being compared to Leicester City’s signing of Jamie Vardy.

Vardy has been absolutely spectacular for Leicester City over the years, helping them to a Premier League and an FA Cup.

The Englishman has come out of nowhere to establish himself as one of the best strikers in Premier League history. It was at 27 years of age that he played for the first time in the top flight of English football but he has more goals there than legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Dwight Yorke and many others.

Thus, it is safe to say that Leicester City pulled off a masterstroke when they signed Vardy from Fleetwood Town. And when talking about Celtic’s move for Matt O’Riley, Malky Mackay has used that as a comparison. As reported by the Daily Record, the Ross County manager said:

"“All the world is now looking for the next Vardy.“We almost got Vardy – it was ourselves (Cardiff) and Leicester who bid for him. The fact they’ve gone and found O’Riley is a fantastic piece of business. He’s a wonderful young player. I even enjoy the fact he’s decided to go and play for Denmark, that he’s confident enough to throw his hat in there.“To go into that Celtic team as a young squad player, make the impact he’s made and show he thinks he should be playing every week is a great credit to him.“It’s a credit to Ange Postecoglou and Celtic’s tentacles they get one like that, as opposed to paying big money for everybody.”"

Celtic transfer masterstroke compared to Leicester City’s move for Vardy

O’Riley was playing for League One side, MK Dons, when Celtic decided to sign him in January. Interestingly, it had looked like the Hoops had originally tried to sign Riley McGree but when that failed to materialise, they went for the Danish youth international instead.

It is safe to say that it has worked out brilliantly for Celtic. O’Riley has come in and immediately proved the doubters wrong.

With Tom Rogic leaving the club at the end of last season, he is set to have a huge role in Ange Postecoglou’s side moving forward. Interestingly, O’Riley has been linked with a move to Leicester City in recent weeks.
