Celtic boss makes brilliant Moritz Jenz claim after debut
It had looked like Celtic might have been in danger of dropping points away to Ross County. Kyogo Furuhashi had given them the lead but the hosts had managed to equalise. The scoreline remained tied at 1-1 till the 84th minute of the game as well, before Moritz Jenz scored on his debut for the club, to put the Hoops ahead. And then Liel Abada made in 3-1 in added time, to put the result beyond any doubt. Jota assisted all three goals on the day.
These were three hard-earned points for Celtic to say the least. They have won both of their opening games of the season though, and that is what matters the most.
Jenz certainly managed to stake his claim for a starting spot moving forward, with Stephen Welsh not making the squad against Ross County due to illness.
The German centre-back is on loan from Lorient at this point of time, and Celtic do have an option to buy included in the deal as well. He certainly seems to have impressed Ange Postecoglou with his performance against Ross County. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the manager told BBC Radio Scotland:
"“Yeah, it was great. His overall performance was really good. He’s fitted in well with the group and is training really well. I was happy to give him an opportunity today.“I thought him and Cameron Carter-Vickers had a different kind of game – they didn’t get challenged too much defensively but had to really be on the ball when we had it.“It was great for him to get his goal. He is really dominant in the air and hopefully it’s one of many.”"
Jenz seems to have impressed Postecoglou on his Celtic debut
Suddenly, Celtic seem to have quite a bit of competition at centre-back. Welsh had put in an excellent performance in the opening game of the season, keeping a clean sheet and scoring as well. And now, the performance from Jenz is a cause for optimism as well.
Carl Starfelt found himself on the bench on the day. And while he might not be ready to play much yet, as a result of having missed the entire pre-season through injury, his return is a massive boost for Celtic as well.
As all of them continue to stake their claim for a starting spot though, Christopher Jullien’s first-team chances seem to be getting slimmer with every game. It remains to be seen if he can complete a Parkhead exit this summer.
