Celtic handed huge injury boost before Ross County game

Celtic started off their Premiership title defence with a 2-0 win over Aberdeen. It was not a classic performance from Ange Postecoglou’s side, as they appeared to be wasteful with a number of chances that they got against the Dons and their decision making in the final third of the pitch also left a lot to be desired.

Ultimately though, it was enough to get all three points, thanks to goals from Stephen Welsh and Jota, and that is what matters most. Their next game is an away trip to Ross County.

It appears that the Hoops have been handed a timely boost ahead of the second game of the league season as it looks like Carl Starfelt is now back available, after missing the entire pre-season through injury. Whether he will play against Ross County or not still remains to be seen.

Speaking in the media conference on Celtic’s official YouTube channel and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, the manager said:

"“He (Carl Starfelt) is training, and he’s available.“Obviously, we’ve just got to pick our moment to throw him back in there. He hasn’t played any competitive football yet, but he’s trained for his first full week and is available. So, I’ll just make a decision about whether we bring him back tomorrow or next week.”"

Starfelt established himself as the starting centre-back for Celtic last season alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers and the duo played a major role in their Premiership and League Cup double triumph.

Those performances also resulted in him making it into the Sweden national team picture but unfortunately for Starfelt, he picked up an injury while away on international duty, which has kept him out of action since then.

In his place, Welsh did make quite the impression in the opening game against Aberdeen. Not only did he manage to keep a clean sheet on the day but he also scored the opening goal of Celtic’s season as well. On the other hand, the Hoops have also signed Moritz Jenz this summer, on loan from Ligue 1 side Lorient.

Thus, Starfelt might have some competition on his hands, when he does finally make his return to the pitch.
