Tom Rogic close to stunning move after leaving Celtic
Tom Rogic deciding to leave Celtic at the end of last season must have come as a shocker to many fans. He had been on the periphery of the starting XI for the past several years but had stayed put at Parkhead. Under the management of Ange Postecoglou though, he finally had a big role in the team once again and played a key part in their Premiership and League Cup double last season.
Thus, the timing of Rogic’s exit did raise quite a few eyebrows. But then, he had been at Celtic for almost a decade, and achieved almost everything that there was to achieve at the club. Thus, it is perhaps only natural that he wanted to look for a different challenge.
Till now, Rogic has not joined a new club since leaving Celtic but it looks like a reunion with Neil Lennon could be on the cards for the Australian international.
As reported by Protathlima (via Scottish Daily Express), Rogic is “close” to a reunion with Lennon at Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia. It appears that he is currently in Cyprus to negotiate a contract.
Rogic looks set for Lennon reunion after leaving Celtic
Rogic is still just 29 years of age and a move to Cyprus would certainly be an interesting path to pursue. There are not many people who would call it a step up from Celtic.
When Rogic left Celtic, there were many who believed that he would have an eye on a move to English football and with the kind of football that he played last season, one would have expected Championship clubs to go after him. There was rumoured interest from clubs in Australia as well. He was also linked with a big money move to Indonesia but that never transpired.
Now, it looks like Rogic could be closing in on a move to Omonia Nicosia. If it does happen, it would certainly be interesting to see how he does in Cyprus and we can only wish him the best.
