There have been rumours about Celtic making a move for Jordan Larsson for years. But things started to really pick up pace this summer when the Swedish striker was released by Spartak Moscow. It is not hard to see why the potential of signing him managed to capture the imagination of the fans, especially as a free agent.

He had been scoring goals while playing for the Russian side and a little over a year back, was even linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund and rated at a transfer fee around £15 million. His 2021/22 campaign was nothing to write home about though.

On the other hand, Celtic are believed to be looking to add another option up front this summer and thus, in many ways, it felt like the stars had aligned to make a move for Larsson.

But as reported by Aftonbladet (via Daily Record), Celtic have not put forward an offer to Larsson, and he will not be offered the chance to follow in his father’s footsteps at Parkhead this summer. The Swede appears to have three contract offers on the table though. These are believed to be from FC Basel, Galatasaray and RCD Mallorca. There are links with Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos too.

While most fans would love the story behind signing Henrik Larsson’s son, and the chance to wear the name on their shirt again, it looks like that won’t be happening anytime soon.

The Hoops have a great front line already with Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis while Daizen Maeda can play there as well. They do also have Albian Ajeti on the books but he hasn’t delivered the performances or goals that were expected of him when he joined from West Ham United in the summer of 2020.

There have been suggestions though that Ajeti could leave this summer and Celtic could try to bring in another striker in place of him. It does not look like Larsson will be that man though.
