Rangers hero makes incredible admission about Celtic star

It is safe to say that things are looking much brighter for Celtic this time around than it was a year ago. Back then, there were very few hopes and expectations around the club, who had finished 25 points behind the Rangers in the league in the previous season and had also failed to win a single piece of silverware. On top of that, they had to undergo a major squad overhaul as well.

Thus, the odds seemed pretty much stacked against Celtic and they had to deal with a series of injury problems as well. All things taken into account, it is remarkable how well they did last season, winning a Premiership and League Cup double, in Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge of the club.

Thus, the bar has been set high for this season. It does feel like the club are capable of getting things done this time around as well though. One of their big hopes for the season is Matt O’Riley, who seems to be the Hoops’ long-term replacement for Tom Rogic, who left at the end of last season.

Not only has O’Riley impressed Celtic fans, but those in the other camp as well. As reported by HITC, Barry Ferguson told Go Radio:

"“He’s very elegant on the ball. It looked to me like he’s shredded a little bit as well. That was one thing you’ve could say against O’Riley, he needed to be fitter. You can see why Rogic wasn’t kept. He’s got it all.”"

Can O’Riley fill Rogic’s boots at Celtic?

It is telling that Celtic have not made a move for an attacking midfielder this summer despite Rogic leaving the club at the end of last season.

There were huge question marks about the move for O’Riley in January. While he had shown a lot of potential, at the end of the day, he was playing League One football for MK Dons. Thus, many fans believed that he would have a tough time making the jump to Celtic.

That has not turned out to be the case at all. Instead, O’Riley has taken to Scottish football like a duck to water and already appears to be drawing the interest of clubs like Leicester City, as a potential replacement for James Maddison.
