Aberdeen star makes sensational Celtic admission

Celtic managed to get a 2-0 win on Flag Day against an in-form Aberdeen side to kick off their Scottish Premiership title defence on the right foot. The Hoops not only have the Scottish crown to defend against the Rangers this time around but will also be making a return to Champions League group stage football after years. Thus, this promises to be a huge campaign for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Celtic were not at their best against Aberdeen in the very first game of their season. The Dons had been in great form coming into the match themselves and many believed that they were capable of causing an upset and taking points off of the champions.

Ultimately, while not a classic performance for Postecoglou’s side, it was still a comfortable victory nonetheless, with goals from Stephen Welsh and Jota in either half sealing all three points.

Aberdeen’s Hayden Coulson seems to be taking inspiration from Celtic as well. As reported by The Scottish Sun [02/08 print edition, page 52], (via 67 Hail Hail), he said:

"“We did well, especially on the counter-attack, although I don’t think we’ll play like that against most teams. Celtic will have the majority of the ball, but for the rest of the season, we’d like to play and do what they did to us.”"

It is safe to say that Celtic were not at their best on Sunday. They seemed to be wasteful in front of goal and their decision making in the forward areas of the pitch left a lot to be desired as well.

But it also speaks of the kind of dominance that this side has showcased in recent times that the fans are picking out mistakes from a 2-0 win over Aberdeen in the very first game of the league season.

That is a good sign after all and it is very clear that Postecoglou’s side will be looking to improve moving forward and will hopefully do so as well. It is a marathon, not a race, and three points is what matters most.
