Most of the rumours surrounding Celtic at the moment has been about potential incomings. The club have already brought in a number of players this summer. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota and Daizen Maeda were all signed on a permanent basis after their great loan spells, keeping the core of the double-winning team intact. On the other hand, new faces like Aaron Mooy, Alexandro Bernabei, Benjamin Siegrist and Moritz Jenz, on loan, have arrived as well.

There have been some players who have headed in the opposite direction but they have not been any real headline grabbers. In fact, the biggest misses this season will be Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton, both of whom left at the end of last season after spending nearly a decade at Parkhead.

Players like Josip Juranovic and Matt O’Riley have been linked with exits but it does not look like that will happen this summer.

Another Celtic player who seemed to have been drawing interest from abroad though is Stephen Welsh. In fact, it appears that Toulouse even submitted a transfer bid for him. But as tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, the Ligue 1 club have now ended their pursuit of the defender and will be turning their attention towards other targets:

French club have ended their interest in Celtic star in major boost

Welsh was not a regular starter for Celtic last season but has gotten a chance to stake his claim for a spot in the team this time around, with Carl Starfelt out with an injury at this point of time.

He could not have asked for a better start to the season either. Starting in a centre-back pairing with Carter-Vickers, not only did Welsh keep a clean sheet in the season opener against Aberdeen but he also scored the Hoops’ opening goal of the campaign.

Now, it remains to be seen if he can compete with Starfelt for the starting spot on the long-term.
