Defensive midfield is an area where Celtic could do with reinforcements this summer. Nir Bitton left the club at the end of last season. While not a regular starter for the club, he was still an important member of the squad and someone that Ange Postecoglou regularly brought off the bench to see out games. He is someone who will need to be replaced. On the other hand, Ismaila Soro has left on loan as well.
The club appear to have brought in Aaron Mooy to fill in the void but there are question marks over whether he can do that. Till now, the Australian has not impressed in a Celtic shirt, although he must be given time to get upto match fitness before making any judgements.
Even then though, Celtic should keep their eyes on defensive midfielders and one player who could be a very good signing is Marco Kana of Anderlecht.
Kana is just 19 years of age but has played plenty of senior football for Anderlecht already. He has also represented Belgium at multiple youth levels.
Celtic should try to sign exciting Belgian defensive midfielder
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Kana has made 40 appearances for Anderlecht till now, scoring and assisting once each.
One of his biggest strengths appears to be his versatility. Not only can he play in defensive midfield but also further up and down the pitch, in central midfield and central defence.
Thus, someone like Kana could prove to be an excellent addition for Celtic, if they can sign him from Anderlecht.
There was heavy interest for Kana last year, when he was linked with a move to clubs like AC Milan and Southampton. This time around, there does not seem to be any such interest and thus, the opportunity might be there to get a deal done.
