Aberdeen manager makes massive Celtic admission

Aberdeen would have been hoping to cause an upset against Celtic, when they took on the defending Scottish champions in their own backyard on Flag Day. The Dons had been in very good form at the start of the campaign and as a result, there was reason for optimism for Jim Goodwin’s side but ultimately, the Hoops ended up walking out with a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Stephen Welsh and Jota.

In fact, Celtic must have been disappointed with the fact that they did not score more than two on the day.

The Hoops were a bit wasteful in front of goal and their decision-making left a lot to be desired. They just seemed to be lacking that edge in the final third of the pitch.

Celtic were the better team on the day without a shadow of a doubt though and Goodwin admitted to that after the game as well. As reported by the Daily Record, the Aberdeen manager told Sky Sports:

"“Celtic were by far the better team. They have a lot of quality, and fitness levels aren’t where they need to be for any team at this stage. This is a difficult venue to come to at the best of times because you know you are going to be chasing the ball, but we just weren’t able to impose ourselves on Celtic and we have to accept that.”"

Celtic were indeed the better team on the day and deserved to win, but at the same time, this team will be expecting more out of themselves. After overcoming all expectations last season, the bar has been set incredibly high for the Hoops.

They might have gotten a somewhat of a comfortable win against Aberdeen but much tougher tests are ahead of them this season, especially with Champions League group stage football coming up.

There, Ange Postecoglou’s side will come up against some of the biggest and best teams in Europe and wastefulness in front of goal or inefficiency in their decision-making will be punished by those sides.

This was just the first game of the new campaign and there is nothing to be worried about, but at the same time, it is important to recognise areas one needs to improve in as early as possible.
