Mikey Johnston’s future at Celtic seems to be up in the air at this point of time. Once one of the most highly rated youngsters at the club, his development has stagnated over the past few years, as a series of injuries have forced him to spend significant time out on the sidelines. Thus, he has slid significantly down the pecking order at Parkhead.
Johnston is not expected to get much playing time this season with the likes of Jota, Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada and James Forrest ahead of him. As a result, a move away from Celtic on loan could do him well and possibly even help him rediscover his form.
At this point of time, Johnston just does not seem to have a lot of confidence and the only way to build that back up is to play regular football. He has been heavily linked with Belgian club, Standard de Liege, recently, who are currently managed by Ronny Deila.
But they do not seem to be the only ones interested in making a move for Johnston. As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, there is interest from other places as well, with Celtic open to a loan:

The 23-year-old is attracting interest from the top leagues in Belgium & The Netherlands & also the English Championship.
No offers have come in yet. Celtic would be open to a loan.
Sky Sports man on Johnston’s potential Celtic exit
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Johnston made 20 appearances last season and played 661 minutes of football, failing to score and getting a solitary assist to his name.
Thus, it does not feel like he is someone who will be getting a lot of chances in Ange Postecoglou’s side, unless something unexpected happens.
At 23 years of age though, he needs to be playing regular football and thus, a loan move to a club where he will get plenty of chances might be perfect for him at this stage of his career. But if he did leave, it would raise questions about the Hoops’ depth on the wings, with Forrest also struggling to remain fit for any significant length of time in recent years.
