One of the most important moves that Celtic made this summer was signing Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal that could rise up to £10 million with add-ons although the initial transfer fee is believed to be around £6 million. The United States international had been an absolute standout for the club last season.

Carter-Vickers played a key part in Celtic’s double-winning campaign and he was arguably their best player. His presence at the back certainly helped solidify what had looked like a pretty weak defence in the 2020/21 campaign. Of course, the likes of Carl Starfelt, Josip Juranovic, Anthony Ralston and Greg Taylor deserve a lot of credit as well.

Carter-Vickers is now a Celtic player for good and one will be hoping that he can continue to develop his game from here and get even better this season, as the Hoops make their return to the Champions League group stage after many years.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, when talking about the Hoops’ best player in training, Carter-Vickers told Celtic TV:

"“Callum McGregor. He’s the captain. He sets the standards for us, day in, day out.”"

It is safe to say that it is not controversial to pick McGregor as the club’s best in training. While he might not have a lot of the qualities that someone like Jota might possess, but there is very little doubt about the fact that the captain is just as important to this team if not more.

We saw last season how badly they struggled when he was out injured for a short spell and he even ended up playing a large part of the season with a protective mask on, and did a brilliant job at that too.

McGregor is the one who makes the team tick in the middle of the park and without him, Celtic are just not the same side. He also deserves a lot of credit for the job that he did as a captain last season. There were a lot of people who had doubts about him, but he proved all of them wrong by guiding the side to a Premiership and League Cup double in his first season with the armband.
