Celtic’s Matt O’Riley makes Leicester City admission

Celtic pulled off a transfer masterstroke when they signed Matt O’Riley in January, when a potential move for Riley McGree failed to transpire. Back then, there were a number of question marks about the player. While the former Fulham youth star had shown a lot of promise at MK Dons, he was still playing at the League One level and some fans were worried that he might not be able to get it done in the Scottish top flight.

It has not taken O’Riley a long time to prove the doubters wrong though. He has shown his class in Celtic colours from the very beginning, so much so that he is believed to be the successor to Tom Rogic in this team, after the Australian left at the end of last season.

It remains to be seen if O’Riley can fill Rogic’s boots or not, but his performances have certainly drawn the interest of clubs down South, including Leicester City.

O’Riley has admitted that he is aware of Leicester City’s interest but seems to have his focus only on Celtic at the moment. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, he told Bold.dk:

"“I’ve heard a bit about the interest from Leicester, but it’s not something I’m thinking about right now. The transfer window is quite crazy with rumours and interest, but I am aware that Leicester quite like me.“Right now, though, I think Celtic is a good place to be. I have good friends around me, my relationship with the coach is good, and the fans are very special. I feel that Celtic is the perfect place for me, but of course, it’s great to have interest because it means I’m playing well.“I also think that it is good for Celtic because it shows that we have some good players over here. It just means we have to keep playing the way we do.“Yes, definitely (I expect to be at Celtic for the new season). It is a huge club, and now we have to play the Champions League against a lot of big clubs. It’s a huge dream for me.”"

O’Riley makes Leicester City admission but seems to have his focus only on Celtic

O’Riley has shown in the past that he is not afraid to leave the spotlight of the Premier League to go to places where he can develop further.

He did leave Fulham to join MK Dons. And now, while many players might consider Leicester City to be the more attractive option, due to the Premier League and everything that comes with it, it would not be a surprise to see O’Riley stay even if the Foxes try to sign him.

At Celtic, he has the chance to play Champions League football this season, something that he won’t get at Leicester City.
