Celtic have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent times, as it is an area of the pitch where the Hoops might need to strengthen further. Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton left at the end of last season, and while the club should have enough to fill the void left behind by the Australian, one cannot be to sure of that when it comes to the gap in defensive midfield.
Both Yosuke Ideguchi and James McCarthy have struggled with form and fitness ever since arriving at Celtic while Aaron Mooy is not a traditional defensive midfielder.
One player that the club have been linked with recently is Bitton’s fellow Israeli international, Mohammad Abu Fani, although there are major question marks over whether he would be able to play the role of a physical midfielder for the Hoops, due to his size. Yet, recent rumours had suggested that the club had sent scouts to watch him in action against Olympiacos.
But now, it looks like Celtic might not be considering a move for him at all. As reported by Football Scotland, they have been told by two separate sources that Abu Fani is not being looked at by the Scottish champions.
Celtic are not looking to make move for midfielder
Thus, it looks like Celtic are not going to make a move for Abu Fani, despite being linked with him heavily in recent times.
Ange Postecoglou has hinted that the club are still looking to make additions this summer. But it will be very interesting to see if they do end up making another addition in the middle of the park.
Postecoglou might not even be looking to bring in a physical midfielder but maybe that is an option that he should consider, considering the level of opposition that they will come up against in the Champions League this season.
