Celtic have been impressive in the summer transfer window till now, bringing in new players like Aaron Mooy, Benjamin Siegrist, Alexandro Bernabei and Moritz Jenz, while also holding on to the core of their double winning team from last season by making the loan moves of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota and Daizen Maeda permanent.

One area where they still seem to be a bit light though is their midfield. The club saw two veteran stars in Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton depart at the end of last season.

While David Turnbull and Matt O’Riley might be able to fill in the void left behind by Rogic, one has to wonder whether Mooy is the type of player who can play the role that Bitton was playing for Ange Postecoglou’s side last season.

Celtic have been linked with an Israeli international this summer though. And as reported by Sport1 (via Daily Record), Parkhead scouts were sent to Greece to make their “final decision” over recommending Mohammad Abu Fani to the club.

The scouts must have been impressed with what they saw. Maccabi Haifa ended up getting a 4-0 win over Olympiacos.

While Abu Fani did not start the game, he did end up coming off the bench and managed to get his name on the scoresheet.

Someone like Abu Fani could be a solid addition to Celtic but at the same time, one has to wonder whether he is capable of being the physical presence in the middle of the park, owing to his size.

Maybe Postecoglou is not just looking for that type of midfielder after all. The club were linked with a move for Vinicius Souza of Lommel SK earlier but other than him, nobody has seemed to fit that bill till now in terms of those who have been linked with a move to Parkhead.
