Rangers hero has backed Celtic as the ‘team to beat’

Celtic have enjoyed a great summer transfer window so far, but the Rangers are making their moves as well. While the Hoops were able to hold onto players like Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Daizen Maeda, and have brought in the likes of Alexandro Bernabei, Aaron Mooy, Benjamin Siegrist and Moritz Jenz, the Ibrox club have also added players like Ben Davies, Ridvan Yilmaz, Rabbi Matondo and Antonio Colak to their ranks.

In terms of pre-season results, both clubs have been solid. On one end, Ange Postecoglou’s side finished it on a six-match unbeaten run. On the other hand, the Rangers enjoyed a 3-1 victory against West Ham United and put in a spirited performance in their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Celtic, being the title holders, will be under a lot of pressure going into the new season, which was not the case last time around, when there were very little expectations surrounding them.

While things look tight between the two Glasgow sides, Rangers hero, Brian Laudrup, believes that Celtic will be the ‘team to beat’.

Laudrup, who was part of a successful Rangers team that went on to win three league titles in a row, has hailed Celtic. As reported by the Daily Mail (via Football Scotland), he said:

"“Of course, while Van Bronckhorst must negotiate Champions League qualifiers, Ange Postecoglou has the luxury of knowing Celtic are already in the group stage.“The Parkhead manager has gone for continuity this summer and I agree spending big on Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota made good sense.“If we look at the title contest before a ball is kicked, we have to be honest and say Celtic are the team to beat. They’re the champions. They have the track record of consistency. They are a known quantity in many ways.”"

Rangers begin their new campaign against Livingston. On the other hand, Celtic will be hosting Aberdeen at Parkhead on Flag Day.

Last season, the Rangers finished four points behind Celtic in the title race. And, it would not be surprising if this season’s title race were to go down to the wire as well.

At the end of the day, there was not a lot between the two sides last season either. In terms of head-to-head, both won twice each while one game ended in a draw.
