Celtic’s biggest problem last season was having to deal with injuries. Through the course of the campaign, a number of their top stars had to spend time on the sidelines and it was incredible that the Hoops continued to win games without them. Often, they even had to play people out of position. Now, with a much deeper squad, Ange Postecoglou would have been hoping for a different picture.
Things have not started brightly in that regard though. Carl Starfelt missed the entire pre-season, having picked up an injury while representing the Sweden national team. And now, it looks like Yosuke Ideguchi could be set for another spell on the sidelines.
Ideguchi arrived at Celtic last January from Gamba Osaka, but has never quite found his feet at the club. A large part of that was due to an injury he picked up early on in his Parkhead career. And this season seems to be starting on the wrong foot for him as well.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Ideguchi is set to miss the start of the season. He picked up a fresh injury problem in training and faces a spell on the sidelines.
Celtic star’s nightmare spell continues as he picks up another injury
It was an interesting move on the part of Celtic to sign Ideguchi from Gamba Osaka. Unlike Kyogo, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda, he had not enjoyed a good season.
On top of that, he had already had a failed stint in Europe, when he had joined Leeds United in 2018. He did not make a single appearance for The Peacocks and ended up having unimpressive loan spells in Spain and Germany.
Ideguchi had shown incredible promise early on in his career though and broke into the Japan national team picture at a young age. Since then, things have not gone as well as was expected for him and one can only hope that he is able to turn his career around at Parkhead this season.
