Celtic’s biggest problem last season was the number of injuries that they picked up, especially in the first half of the campaign, when the squad was pretty thin. The situation was far from ideal and it was incredible how well the Hoops managed to do, winning a League Cup and Premiership double in Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge.

The manager must have been hoping to avoid injury problems this season though, as Celtic look to take their game to the next level. Unfortunately, they have not started well in that regard.

Carl Starfelt was injured earlier while playing for the Sweden national team and has been out since then, not appearing in pre-season for the Hoops. Yosuke Ideguchi has recently been injured as well. And now, one of the club’s recent signings has joined that list.

As reported by Videocelts, Moritz Jenz is an injury doubt for Celtic’s Premiership opener against Aberdeen. Postecoglou arranged a full scale practice match at Lennoxtown today, with the defender on loan from Lorient picking up a knock. The medical team will now assess him to establish the extent of his problem.

It looks like the injury problems are already going up for Celtic and the season has not even started yet. It goes without saying that this is not a situation that they would have hoped to start their Premiership title defence in.

Jenz has been brought in on loan from Lorient this summer, with Christopher Jullien expected to depart the club soon.

But with both Starfelt and Jenz doubts for the game against Aberdeen, it is very possible that we could see Jullien make an appearance on the bench on Flag Day while Cameron Carter-Vickers and Stephen Welsh start in the heart of defence.
