Celtic have made quite a few additions to their squad this summer and strengthened in a few positions of need. But at the same time, this team is not perfect and one position, where they seem to not have a lot of depth is their defensive midfield. Nir Bitton left at the end of last season and there are question marks over whether the club have been able to properly replace him this summer.
Aaron Mooy has arrived on a free transfer but is he is the guy who can fill in the role of a proper defensive midfielder and help see out games? Only time shall tell.
Many fans believe though that Celtic still need to sign a defensive midfielder and rumours had been doing the rounds of social media that the Hoops could decide to make a move for Manchester City youngster, Claudio Gomes.
But as reported by Football Scotland, rumours linking Celtic with Manchester City defensive midfielder Gomes are wide of the mark
Celtic are not closing in on move for Manchester City defensive midfielder
Gomes came through the youth ranks at PSG before joining Manchester City. He was a regular feature in the French youth sides as well.
But his career has not quite taken off since then, as he has failed to establish himself at the senior level. He is 22 years of age and spent the previous season on loan at Barnsley.
Thus, while he might not seem like the most exciting of players to target, Ange Postecoglou did manage to get the best out of Jota, who was in a pretty similar situation last season.
But it looks like a move for the Manchester City player is not close despite the rumours doing the rounds. Will Celtic ultimately end up going for a defensive midfielder at all this summer? It remains to be seen.
