Celtic have strengthened at the back this summer. They signed Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur, after his brilliant loan spell, in a deal that could rise up to £10 million. They have also signed Moritz Jenz from Ligue 1 club, Lorient, on loan with an option to buy. On the other hand, Christopher Jullien has been linked with a Parkhead exit but that is yet to materialise.

Jullien was a very important player for Celtic a few years back and even ended up scoring a League Cup-winning goal against the Rangers in the 2019/20 season. But at the same time, he has struggled badly with fitness problems and has barely featured for the last couple of seasons.

Thus, he is not expected to feature much and even if he seals an exit, Celtic will have four options for their two centre-back spots. Now though, it looks like they could be looking to make additions to their central defence at the youth level.

As reported by Devon Live, Exeter City have rejected two ‘low offers’ from Scottish clubs for highly-rated teenager Alfie Pond. Rangers and Celtic are the clubs thought to have made offers well short of the League One club’s valuation.

Celtic and Rangers appear to have had bids rejected for centre-back

Pond is a highly-rated 18-year-old centre-back currently playing for English League One club, Exeter City.

Celtic will be very aware of the kind of talent that the League One can offer though, having signed Matt O’Riley from MK Dons in January and he is now thought to be the successor to Tom Rogic in this team.

At the same time, Celtic could do with a few additions to their youth ranks, having lost one player after the other to clubs around Europe in recent years. Let’s see what the future holds.
