Aberdeen handed major problem before facing Celtic
Celtic will begin the defence of their Premiership crown with a game against Aberdeen at Parkhead. The Hoops will be riding high on confidence. While their pre-season was far from perfect, Ange Postecoglou’s side did manage to remain undefeated. The 2-0 win over Norwich City would have also given them a boost heading into the 2022/23 campaign.
Aberdeen, on the other hand, will be keen to bounce back after what was a disappointing campaign for the Dons. They have made a bright start to this campaign though and Celtic will need to be at their best when they come up against Jim Goodwin’s side.
One of their best performers in recent times has been Liam Scales, who is at Aberdeen on loan from Celtic. While he had featured as a left-back for the Hoops last season, he has been playing and thriving at centre-back for the Dons.
He will not be available in the game against Celtic though as a result of being on loan from the Glasgow giants. Goodwin even admitted that it was a disappointment. As reported by Aberdeen Live, the manager said:
"“It is disappointing that Scales is going to be unavailable but that is the nature of the beast when you loan from teams within your own league. You just have to take that on the chin.“I think Scales and Stewart have looked tremendous in the opening three games. Hopefully after the Celtic game we can develop the relationship.”"
Aberdeen manager admits that missing Scales vs Celtic is a disappointment
It is great to see that Scales is doing well away on loan and we can only hope that he continues to develop his game moving forward.
He was very highly rated during his time at Shamrock Rover before he joined Celtic. It did not quite work out for him at Parkhead though.
Of course, with him doing so well at centre-back, this could open up more doors for him in the future. If Christopher Jullien does leave and Moritz Jenz fails to impress, potentially he could be an option in the heart of defence as competition to Carl Starfelt. Scales is left-footed as well, which is another bonus and makes him a good fit for that role.
