Celtic have been linked with a wide number of players this summer despite the fact that they did not need to make a number of reinforcements, coming off of a Premiership and League Cup-winning campaign. One position that they did need to improve upon though was their defensive midfield, after seeing Nir Bitton leave at the end of last season.

The club appear to have gone an unconventional route in filling that void by signing Aaron Mooy on a free transfer. He is not a midfield enforcer by any stretch of the imagination though and that is the type of player this squad is missing right now. With Celtic set to come up against some very strong teams in the Champions League, they could definitely do with a physical option in the middle of the park, just to bring off the bench and see off games, if nothing else.

It had been believed that the club were not going to make any more additions this summer but Ange Postecoglou has not closed the door on further signings. Thus, could they go after another defensive midfielder?

One player that they had been linked with recently is Fausto Vera of Argentinos Juniors, who is believed to be rated at a transfer fee in the range of £5.5 million to £6.2 million. But it looks like there is no chance that Celtic will be able to sign him anymore.

As tweeted out by Cesar Luis Merlo, Vera is a new reinforcement for Corinthians. There is already an agreement between clubs and they are beginning to exchange contracts.

Vera is a very highly rated Argentine defensive midfielder, who is great at both aspects of the game. He can sit deep and play brilliant long passes, he can carry the ball up the pitch and he can mix it up in the middle of the park as well, and win back possession of the ball.

Thus, he could have been a solid signing for Celtic, although it is unclear how much interest the Hoops actually had in the midfielder. It looks like he is headed for Corinthians.
