Ange Postecoglou delivers more exciting Celtic transfer news

It has already been a hectic summer transfer window for Celtic. But it looks like it might not be over yet. With several new signings already made, the latest being the double addition of Aaron Mooy on a free transfer and Moritz Jenz on a season-long loan from Lorient with an option to buy included in the deal, many felt that the Hoops’ recruitment drive might be over for this time.

Well, the good news is that Celtic might not be done yet in terms of transfers as Postecoglou seems keen to keep improving and strengthening the squad.

Rumours have suggested that the club are still on the lookout for another striker, while many fans believe that they could do with a physical midfielder and some depth on the wings as well.

Speaking to Sky Sports Scotland, and as reported by the Daily Record, Postecoglou claimed that they expect some comings and goings over the upcoming weeks:

"“Ultimately the recruiting is about making us stronger. We’ve got to be stronger than last year, we’ve got to improve. We want to make sure the league is still our focus. We want to defend our title and to do that I think we have to be stronger and that is what our recruiting has been focused on.“The gaps we had from last year, trying to fill those gaps and in general just making the squad a little but more robust than we were last year. We knew what we needed and part of that process was players like Jota and Cameron (Carter-Vickers) permanent members of our squad. It is not just because they were good last year, it is because we think they are a good investment for us. I think the best football is still ahead of them. Obviously they are still relatively young in age so it was important to get them back in.“And just filling the gaps that I felt we had in the squad last year. The areas that I felt we were stretched in. We had some significant injuries and because of that we just didn’t have the quality and depth that we needed. So, we’ve tried to address that this year. We will still be active. Whether we get deals done, we will see. It has to be the right ones. We expect some comings and goings over the next two, three weeks.”"

With the new league campaign now under ten days away, any new players to come may need more time to settle in. But it’s going to be another busy football season at Parkhead and with plenty of trophies to go for and Champions League group stage football secured, there should not be a lack of opportunities if one can take them.

The fact that the club are still active in the transfer market despite strong additions being made already is very encouraging and a good signal of intent. Greater strength in depth will surely help and keep competition for places alive as well as allowing plenty of rotation for the high intensity style of football that the Hoops play.

We’ll have to wait to see what positions are strengthened and of course some more exits are highly probable too, with Albian Ajeti and Christopher Jullien being most likely to leave.
