Celtic’s pre-season has been a bit up and down till now. The club have looked incredible at times and blown their opponents away. But they have not been able to hold up those performances for the entirety of 90 minutes, often leading to giving up convincing leads. That had been a problem for them at times last season too and is something that Ange Postecoglou’s side need to work on.
One player that Celtic have been missing recently is Giorgos Giakoumakis, who was not available for the friendlies against Blackburn Rovers and Legia Warsaw, as he has had a baby recently. We would like to congratulate him and his family on this happy occasion.
The Greek striker was one of the key players for Celtic last season and one of the major reasons behind their Premiership triumph, as he proved to be the main source of goals for the Hoops in the second half of the campaign.
Postecoglou has now confirmed that he is back in training once again. As reported by the Daily Record, the manager said:
"“She’s had the baby so he’s back and he trained today at Lennoxtown with Aaron and Moritz and he’ll be fine for Saturday.”"
Postecoglou confirms that Celtic star has returned to training
Giakoumakis did not have a pre-season with Celtic last season either and that ended up resulting in him having a slow start to his career at Parkhead, as he struggled with both form and fitness.
This time around, one would hope that the situation is much different. He has gotten the off-season to rest up and has already settled into the Celtic team as well. Thus, expectations are that he will come out of the gate with goals this season.
On the other hand, Celtic have another brilliant option up top in the form of Kyogo and Postecoglou’s biggest problem right now might be finding a way to play both of them together, as neither deserves to be sitting on the bench.
