Moritz Jenz has been linked with a move to Celtic for a long time, even before Ange Postecoglou was appointed as the manager of the club. And the Hoops have finally gotten their man. The German defender has joined on a season-long loan from Ligue 1 side, Lorient, although the Hoops have an option to buy included in the deal as well.

This type of deal worked spectacularly for Celtic last season, as they managed to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota, and fans would be hoping that Jenz is successful as well.

Celtic needed to bring in another centre-back this summer. Christopher Jullien is expected to leave the club, even though a potential move to Schalke failed to transpire. And even if the Frenchman ends up remaining at Parkhead, it does not feel like he would be able to make a positive contribution this season, having not played much football over the past two years.

During his youth days at Fulham, Jenz was teammates with Matt O’Riley and it appears that the midfielder played a part in his move to Celtic this summer. As reported by the Daily Record, the German centre-back said:

"“Since last year, I’ve been in touch with Matt O’Riley who’s been my best mate since we were young and together at Fulham.“He’s told me a lot of great things about the season and how it went. It went really well for Celtic; they won the league. It’s just fascinating and a dream come true.“He texted me immediately after he signed, saying, ‘Listen, tell your agent to try something and push, it would be nice to have you here’. It’s finally happened. It’s always good to have a friend that can help you settle in quickly.”"

Jenz could have joined Celtic last summer as well but ultimately ended up at Ligue 1 side, Lorient. Things did not go his way there.

Jenz struggled to get playing time for Lorient despite the fact that they were struggling as a team and barely managed to stay up in the top flight.

As a result, a move away from the club was the right step for him and the door of opportunity opened up for Celtic once again and the Hoops did not hesitate in taking their chance. Now, it remains to be seen if it works out or not.
