Celtic have started this summer transfer window in spectacular fashion, not waiting around to bring in players. The club signed Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota and Daizen Maeda permanently, after the trio were brilliant while on loan at Parkhead last season and played a key part in their double triumph. Also, the Hoops have signed Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus and Benjamin Siegrist on a free transfer.
The club are still expected to make a few more additions though and it looks like they are very close to completing one of those, in the form of Aaron Mooy.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Mooy’s transfer to Celtic has edged closer as the Australian has completed his medical.
As a result, Celtic fans should keep their eyes open as a move could be announced soon. Mooy will be arriving on a free transfer, after leaving Chinese side, Shanghai Port. The Australia has agreed a short-term deal with the option for a further season.
Celtic target has completed his medical and move now close
A lot of fans have not been very enthusiastic when it comes to a move for Mooy. The Australian international star is set to turn 32 years of age soon and has not been at the top of his game in recent years.
Many are seeing this as a move similar to the one Celtic pulled off for James McCarthy last summer and it is safe to say that that has not worked out till now.
At the same time though, one needs to point out that Mooy does not have the injury history of McCarthy. Also, Ange Postecoglou has worked with him in the past, during his time as the manager of the Australian national team, and will know exactly what he will be getting from the midfielder.
Celtic need to replace the experience of Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic in this squad, and someone like Mooy could do that as well, having spent time in the Premier League with Huddersfield Town and Brighton & Hove Albion. He has also played in Scotland in the past with St Mirren and should not take much time to adjust to the league and surroundings as a result.
