There is no hiding from the fact that Celtic need another centre-back this summer. Christopher Jullien could very well be on his way out of the club and even if he stayed, he does not look like someone who will get a lot of playing time. On the other hand, Stephen Welsh does not look someone who can be a regular starter for the Hoops in case either Cameron Carter-Vickers or Carl Starfelt picked up an injury.

Thus, the Hoops need to make an addition in the heart of their defence and it looks like they are close to doing just that.

Celtic were linked with Moritz Jenz last summer and now, it looks like their chase for the German defender could finally come to an end.

As reported by L’Equipe (via Get French Football News), Lorient defender Jenz is on the verge of joining Celtic this summer. The nature of the transfer is yet to filter through.

Jenz appears to be a long-term target for Celtic. He had been linked with a move to Parkhead back when he was at FC Lausanne-Sport, before Ange Postecoglou had even arrived as the manager of the Hoops.

Now, there is no doubt that there are a lot of positive aspects to Jenz’s game and he could be a solid addition to the squad. But he does not look like someone who would be pushing for a starting spot.

Jenz struggled for playing time at Lorient last season, despite the fact that the club barely managed to avoid relegation from the Ligue 1.

Thus, if Celtic are indeed able to sign Jenz, it will be very interesting to see how he does at Parkhead. He does have experience of English football, having come through the youth ranks at Fulham.
