Fresh details emerge about Aaron Mooy’s Celtic contract
Celtic were linked with a move for Aaron Mooy last summer as well but a move failed to materialise back then. But a year later, the Hoops look set to get their man, and that too on a free transfer. The reaction of the fans to the news has been mixed at best, with a lot of people uncertain whether the Australian international is good enough to be a regular starter for the club.
It was just recently that Mooy left Shanghai Port, where he had spent the last couple of years. Before that, he had enjoyed spells in the Premier League at Huddersfield Town and Brighton & Hove Albion.
While a move is not completely over the line yet, it looks to be a matter of time and Mooy would reunite with former Australian national team manager, Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.
Some more details about his deal with the club have emerged as well, which is of interest considering he is 31 years of age. As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, a full agreement is in place and the contract will be till June 2023 with an option to extend for a further season, and the deal with be completed this week.
Fresh details emerge about Mooy’s contract with Celtic
For a period of three straight years, Mooy was the best player of Australia and there is no doubt that at the top of his game, he can be a fantastic addition to Celtic. He also has experience of the Scottish league already, having made his breakthrough at St Mirren.
There was positivity around a move for Mooy last summer but eyebrows have been raised this time around, with Celtic headed for Champions League football and expectations much higher.
Mooy is 31 years of age and set to turn 32 in a few months time. Many have compared the move to the one for James McCarthy last summer. But one has to point out that the Australian does not have nearly the injury history that the former Everton star has.
