Celtic have already taken steps in a positive direction to improve their squad further this summer. Not only have they made the loan moves of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota and Daizen Maeda permanent, but the Hoops have also signed Benjamin Siegrist on a free transfer and Alexandro Bernabei on a £3.75 million deal from Lanus. There are still a few areas though, which need attention.

Defensive midfield is one such area. Nir Bitton left the club at the end of last season and although he was not a regular starter for Celtic, he still had a big role to play in Ange Postecoglou’s plans. On the other hand, Ismaila Soro has left on loan as well, and while Yosuke Ideguchi and James McCarthy can both play there, neither of them has been particularly impressive since arriving at Parkhead.

Thus, Celtic are expected to sign another defensive midfielder and rumours had emerged a few weeks earlier that the Hoops had agreed a deal to sign Alfa Semedo of Vitoria Guimaraes. It was supposed to be a loan deal with an option to buy of £2 million plus a further £1 million in add-ons.

Anthony Joseph believes though that Celtic are not chasing the signature of Semedo at all despite the rumours. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said:

"“I think the Portuguese media were reporting that a loan deal and a fee had been agreed [for Semedo].“We don’t believe that to be the case.“As far as I’m led to believe Celtic are not pursuing the signing of Semedo.”"

The rumours surrounding Semedo had emerged last month but nothing has transpired since then. Thus, it looks like it is headed nowhere.

Celtic were also heavily linked with Vinicius Souza of Lommel SK but the Brazilian star has ended up joining Espanyol on loan.

Recently, another player who has been linked with a move to Celtic is Fausto Vera of Argentinos Juniors, who has also represented Argentina at multiple youth levels. Now, it remains to be seen if the Hoops end up making a move for him or not. Bernabei became the first Argentine player in the club’s history this summer. Could they bring in two in the same window?
