Paris Saint-Germain hand Celtic €6 million transfer blow

Celtic fans must be happy with the signings that the club have made this summer till now. Not only have they managed to sign the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota and Daizen Maeda permanently after their brilliant loan spells in the previous campaign, but they have also added Benjamin Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei to their ranks. In terms of outgoings, Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton leaving does give Ange Postecoglou something to think about.

While there has been a lot of talk about bringing in a defensive midfielder to replace Bitton, with the most recent rumours linking Celtic with Argentine youth international, Fausto Vera, the same kind of attention has not been paid to the attacking midfield position that Rogic has vacated.

Of course, a large part of that is because the club already seem to have a ready-made replacement in the form of Matt O’Riley and one cannot count out David Turnbull either. But still, they could do with another player to replace Rogic’s place in the squad.

They had recently been linked with Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, Edouard Michut, by some of the most reliable sources when it comes to transfers. Thus, it was a massive surprise when Postecoglou publicly played down the rumours.

As reported by Independent, PSG have set an asking price of €6 million with a sell-on clause of 25% for Michut. While Celtic have been in contact with the French champions over the 19-year-old, the Hoops have indicated they are only willing to go just over the €2 million mark.

Postecoglou playing down interest in Michut was seen by sources in France as an attempt to bring down the fee.

Let’s see if that is indeed the case. One has to say though that the chances of Celtic making a €6 million move for a 19-year-old attacking midfielder, who is unproven at the senior level, are slim to none.
