Celtic have made quite a few additions to their squad this summer and one of them was the permanent signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers in a deal that could rise up to £10 million with add-ons although the initial transfer fee is believed to be around £6 million. The United States international had spent the previous season on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and was one of the key stars behind the Hoops’ Premiership and League Cup double.

Thus, signing Carter-Vickers permanently should be considered as a major coup for Celtic but he is not the only Tottenham Hotspur defender that the club have been linked with in recent years though.

In early 2021, when Neil Lennon was still the manager of the club, Celtic were rumoured to be after the signature of Japhet Tanganga on loan but that failed to materialise and he stayed on at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tanganga’s situation at Tottenham Hotspur has not changed since though. After bursting onto the scene, he has struggled for minutes and is once again being linked with a move away from the club. And Celtic should reignite their interest in the 23-year-old.

Tanganga had made a brilliant start to his senior career at Tottenham Hotspur but things have fizzled away since then. There is very little doubt about his potential though.

Celtic are in need of an addition at the back with the future of Christopher Jullien up in the air. The Frenchman appeared to be headed to Schalke but that did not end up happening. Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

If Jullien does end up leaving, Celtic should definitely try to bring in someone like Tanganga, who is capable of playing all over the backline.

Several players’ careers have been revitalised under the management of Ange Postecoglou and that could be an attractive thing to someone like Tanganga.
