Celtic and Blackburn Rovers played out a 2-2 draw in their pre-season friendly. For the Hoops, Jota and David Turnbull got their names on the scoresheet, and there were a few very promising performances on the day. They must be disappointed not to get the win though, as the second half display left a lot to be desired.

Of course, it was just a pre-season friendly and there is not a lot to be worried about but at the same time, we are just two weeks away from the start of the league season, when Celtic will take on Aberdeen at Parkhead on Flag Day.

Thus, they must fine tune their mistakes before that. This is expected to be a very tight title race between Celtic and the Rangers, and Ange Postecoglou’s side cannot afford to make a slow start like the last time around.

Blackburn Rovers manager, Jon Dahl Tomasson, appeared to be impressed with what he saw from Celtic on the day though. As reported by Lancs Live, he said about the game:

"“It was a great test in a great stadium. I think they enjoyed the game, a lot of chances were created for both sides. We played against a well-coached team with a very young side. I think we learned a lot from this game with our decision on and off the ball. It was a friendly but there were a lot of tackles flying around. You need that, football is about passion.”"

The Blackburn Rovers manager further went on to add:

"“I’d love to have more of the ball but they made it difficult for us, especially in the first half. They were good on the ball, Celtic play in the Champions League and we have just started this project with a lot of youngsters.”"

Tomasson is a popular figure amongst Celtic supporters after some of his comments about the Rangers last season.

For Celtic, the test against Blackburn Rovers was a good one. It showed that the Hoops’ first-team are very much capable of competing with an English Championship team who will have promotional hopes this time around.

In fact, Postecoglou’s side were the ones who impressed in the first half and it was only after the break, and after a series of changes, that they ended up losing their grip on the game.

Overall, it appeared to be a positive experience for both sides, which is what pre-season friendlies should be. Now, it is about making the right adjustments and be ready for the start of the campaign in a couple of weeks time.
