Celtic summer signing has already impressed teammates

Till now, the majority of Celtic’s summer incomings have been players who were at the club last season on loan and managed to make their mark. These are Cameron Carter-Vickers, who has been signed from Tottenham Hotspur, Jota, who has been signed from Benfica, and Daizen Maeda, who has been signed from Ange Postecoglou’s old club, Yokohama F. Marinos.

There are a couple of new faces at Celtic as well though. Benjamin Siegrist has joined on a free transfer but Scottish football fans will be familiar with him from his time at Dundee United. Alexandro Bernabei is getting his first taste of European football though.

Bernabei has been signed from Lanus in a transfer deal believed to be around £3.75 million and in the process, he became Celtic’s first ever Argentine player. Thus, it is safe to say that there are high expectations from the left-back to deliver.

Promisingly, it looks like he is already impressing his teammates. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, speaking in a media conference on Celtic’s official YouTube channel, Anthony Ralston said about Bernabei:

"“He’s a hardworking player. Even though he’s just come in, he’s also picked up on how the gaffer wants us to play that full-back role, in terms of coming inside. He’s understood that very well.“He’s worked hard in training. And he’s fitted in with the boys well, even though there’s a bit of a language barrier there. He’s made the effort to be around the boys and join in when he can. I wish him all the best in his Celtic career.”"

Bernabei is just 21 years of age and this is his first stint in Europe. As a result, it might be a bit unfair to expect him to hit the ground running from the very beginning but it does feel like he is starting make the adjustment already.

Bernabei has a lot of attributes that could make him a great fit in Postecoglou’s style of football. He is rapid, can dribble past defenders, has quality in the final third of the pitch and is aggressive off the ball.

At Celtic, he will be competing with Greg Taylor for the left-back spot, with Liam Scales having already left on loan and Boli Bolingoli on a permanent basis this summer. It remains to be seen how things turn out for the Argentine this season.
