Things have certainly slowed down at Celtic a bit in recent days when it comes to transfer incomings, after the club made a blistering start to the window. The Hoops have already managed to get permanent deals for Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Daizen Maeda, Benjamin Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei over the line. And it is pretty clear that they are looking to make a few more additions.
One area where the Hoops might need to bring in reinforcements is their central defence. Christopher Jullien has struggled for the past couple of years with injury and could be on his way out of the club this summer. A move to Schalke failed to materialise but there is believed to be interest in the centre-back from French clubs.
If Jullien did indeed end up leaving, Celtic will need to replace him and it looks like they have a Liverpool player in their sights.
As tweeted out by Fraser Fletcher, Celtic have made contact with Liverpool regarding Ben Davies. However, Blackburn Rovers are currently pushing hard for the centre-back.
Celtic have made contact with Liverpool for defender
Many fans will remember that Celtic came very close to signing Davies on a pre-contract in January 2021 but at the last moment, Liverpool swooped in and signed him from Preston North End.
The Reds were going through a defensive crisis back then as a result of a series of injuries but even then, Davies did not make a single appearance for the club and ended up going out on loan to Sheffield United last season.
He is expected to be on his way out of Anfield this summer and it remains to be seen if Celtic do end up making a move for him this time. Judging from a variety of rumours, Liverpool could be looking for a transfer fee in the range of £2.5 million to £4 million to part ways with the defender.
