Leeds United manager makes stunning Celtic claim

Celtic were desperately searching for a manager last summer and one of the names that they had been linked with was that of Jesse Marsch. The American had impressed immensely during his time with RB Salzburg. A lot of the Hoops fans seemed to be excited by the idea of having someone like him in the Parkhead dugout as well. Ultimately, he ended up moving to RB Leipzig though while the Glasgow giants appointed Ange Postecoglou. The rest is history.

Things have gone very differently for Marsch and Postecoglou since that point of time. The American manager struggled to make his mark at RB Leipzig and was shown the exit door in the middle of the season. He would get some sort of redemption though, by helping Leeds United avoid relegation after replacing Marcelo Bielsa.

On the other hand, Postecoglou managed to win the Premiership and League Cup double in his very first season in charge of Celtic and is now ready to manage them in the Champions League.

Marsch seems to have been keeping an eye on Postecoglou’s Celtic side. As reported by the Daily Record, the Leeds United manager said:

"“I’m a big admirer of Ange. I think the work he has done here (in Australia), in Japan and then in Scotland has been really, really good. What a great first year he had with Celtic. I love seeing people challenge themselves.“Have clear ideas, have teams that play in a very distinct manner and stay true to their identity. It is inspiring.”"

There is no denying the fact that Postecoglou has done an incredible job ever since arriving as the Celtic manager last summer.

What makes his achievements even more impressive are the circumstances surrounding his appointment. The club had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the previous campaign, and were in need of a huge summer rebuild as well.

Also, Postecoglou had never managed a top flight club in Europe before this, despite his considerable successes in Japan and Australia. Thus, most people had written him off even before a ball had been kicked. A year on and he is the best manager in all of Scotland.
