Celtic are still in need of strengthening in a few positions of their squad. Despite the fact that the club have already made the loan move for Cameron Carter-Vickers permanent in a deal that could rise up to £10 million with add-ons, it looks like centre-back is an area where the Hoops could still need a reinforcement, especially with the future of Christopher Jullien up in the air.

Jullien has barely featured for Celtic over the past couple of seasons as he has struggled with a major injury that kept him out of action for more than a year. He returned to fitness earlier in 2022 but has made only one appearance under the management of Ange Postecoglou.

As a result, a move away from the club might suit all parties and Jullien even looked close to a move to Schalke earlier this summer, but that failed to materialise. One cannot count out his chances of leaving completely though, with clubs in France rumoured to be keeping an eye on the defender.

If Jullien does end up leaving Celtic this summer, the club would need to bring in a replacement and a Chelsea centre-back could be the perfect choice.

Celtic have big chance to sign Chelsea centre-back this summer

Malang Sarr is someone who had an up-and-down campaign with Chelsea. There were times when he looked very good, but at others, he did not look like someone who could be regular starter for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Sarr made 21 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea last season. That is not bad considering the stars that they had.

But with Kalidou Koulibaly set to arrive at Chelsea this summer, and the club expected to sign two more centre-backs as well, Sarr’s chances of featuring next season would be slim.

As a result, a move away from Chelsea on loan might make sense for him and that might open the door for Celtic to swoop in and bring him in for the season.

Someone like Sarr would make a lot of sense for Celtic. While he might have struggled to play ahead of Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta, he is a pretty decent centre-back in his own right. Also, he is left-footed and could compete with Carl Starfelt for the left-sided role in the heart of defence.
