Celtic have made a very promising start to the summer transfer window. Not only have the club made some significant additions to their squad, but at the same time no major exits have taken place either. One promising signing is that of Alexandro Bernabei, who has arrived from Lanus in a transfer deal believed to be around £3.75 million. In the process, he also became the Hoops’ first ever Argentine player.

That is a surprising bit of trivia to say the least and it might have opened the floodgates, as Celtic are now being linked with another Argentine player in the form of Fausto Vera.

The Hoops are in urgent need of signing a defensive midfielder, having seen Nir Bitton leave at the end of last summer, and Ismaila Soro go out on loan this summer. Vera currently plays for Argentinos Juniors and could prove to be an excellent addition for the club, but there appears to be heavy competition for his signature.

As tweeted out by Cesar Luis Merlo, Corinthians have made a formal offer of €6 million for 70% of the economic rights of Vera. He also has a similar proposal from Genk as well.

Vera has been incredibly impressive for Argentinos Juniors and he has represented Argentina at the youth levels as well.

Still just 22 years of age, Vera has an incredibly high ceiling as a defensive midfielder. He can sit back deep and provide defence-splitting passes, while the defensive side of his game is impressive as well, as he is adept at winning back possession and dominant aerially.

Thus, someone like Vera could be an excellent addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad but it will certainly be very difficult to bring him to Parkhead and the Hoops will need to shell out a significant transfer fee for the Argentine as well.
