Rangers suffer massive blow while Celtic get better
Going into the 2021/22 season, the Rangers were the heavy favourites to retain the Premiership title while Celtic found themselves in a very difficult position. The Hoops had finished the previous campaign without a single piece of silverware and 25 points behind the Ibrox club in the league. On top of that, they had a manager in Ange Postecoglou, who had never managed a top flight club in Europe and a vastly different squad.
It is safe to say that Celtic managed to overdeliver on all expectations as they won a Premiership and League Cup double in Postecoglou’s first season in charge of the Hoops. Thus, there is a lot of excitement about where they go from here.
Celtic have continued to strengthen this summer, turning the loan deals of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota and Daizen Maeda permanent while also adding Benjamin Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei to the squad. Their only worry right now is replacing Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic, both of whom departed at the end of last season.
On the other hand, Joe Aribo recently left the Rangers to join Southampton. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side were linked with Angers midfielder, Angelo Fulgini, but appear to have suffered a blow in that race.

As reported by Ouest-France, Fulgini is very close to signing with German club FSV Mainz. It is believed to be in a transfer deal around €7 million.
While the Rangers’ hopes of signing Fulgini seem to be headed nowhere, Celtic could be closing in on another player that they have been linked with as well, St Mirren’s 17-year-old defensive midfielder, Dylan Reid.
Now, the Rangers have made some additions to their squad this summer but will they be enough to catch up with the Premiership champions?
Celtic for their part are expected to strengthen their squad further this summer and could be looking for a few more signings. Some areas where they might need to make additions are defensive midfield, on the wings and up front.
