It was just recently that Celtic signed their first ever Argentine player in the form of Alexandro Bernabei. The left-back has arrived from Lanus in a transfer deal believed to be around £3.75 million. But now, it looks like the club could already be looking to make their second one as well and have been linked with Fausto Vera of Argentinos Juniors recently.

Celtic are in urgent need of bringing in a defensive midfielder this summer, after having seen Scott Brown leave last summer and Nir Bitton at the end of last season. Ismaila Soro has also left the club on loan recently.

The club were heavily linked with a move for Brazilian midfielder, Vinicius Souza, over the past several weeks but he has ended up moving to Espanyol on loan instead. Could Vera prove to be the alternative?

As reported by Football Scotland, Vera has been mentioned in recruitment conversations at Celtic Park but no offer has yet been made to Argentinos Juniors.

Fresh Vera to Celtic transfer claim has been made

It will not be easy to sign Vera. On one hand, it is believed that other clubs in Europe are looking at the Argentine as well. On the other hand, it is believed that it could take a transfer fee north of €6 million to sign him from Argentinos Juniors. It must be remembered that the Hoops have already shelled out significantly this summer to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Daizen Maeda and Bernabei.

If Celtic are able to sign Vera though, it has the potential to be a terrific addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Vera has the attributes to be a brilliant defensive midfielder and is adept at both sides of the game. He can sit deep and make some incredible defence splitting passes, but at the same time, he is pretty good defensively as well and can break up opposition play. Also, at 22 years of age, one would expect him to get even better with experience.
