Celtic recently signed Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus in a transfer deal believed to be around £3.75 million. In the process, he became the Hoops’ first ever Argentine player. Left-back is an area that the club needed to strengthen in and there are high hopes that he can prove to be a success at Parkhead. On the other hand, another position that is of immediate need is defensive midfield right now.

Nir Bitton left the club at the end of last season while Scott Brown had left last summer. On top of that, Ismaila Soro has left on loan. James McCarthy and Yosuke Ideguchi can play there but neither has shown much in a Celtic jersey till now and as a result, the Hoops do need to make an addition there.

Fausto Vera of Argentinos Juniors is a name that has been doing the rounds of the rumour mill recently and for good reason.

Vera can prove to be an excellent addition for Celtic even though it is believed that it might take a transfer fee north of €6 million to bring him to Parkhead. Other clubs are also believed to be interested in him. Roy Nemer was asked whether he would be a good fit for the Hoops and he tweeted out:

Celtic should make move for the Argentine star this summer

Vera is just 22 years of age, but he has already shown some incredible potential. The Argentine youth international is a defensive midfielder and appears to be adept at both sides of the game.

He can sit deep and ping in some incredible passes to the forwards. On the other hand, the defensive side of his game is solid as well. He is dominant aerially and very good at winning back possession from the opposition players.

Of course, there would be some amount of risk involved in any move for Vera and a lot would depend on how he adjusts to the European game, but considering the potential that he has to be a top player in the future, the risk could very well be worth it.
