While Celtic have never been excepted to make a ton of additions to their squad this summer, that has not stopped the club from being linked with a number of players. To be honest, there are still quite a few positions where the Hoops could do with more options as well, despite signing Daizen Maeda, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alexandro Bernabei and Benjamin Siegrist on permanent deals this summer.

Defensive midfield is clearly one of them following the departure of Nir Bitton at the end of last season. On the other hand, they could do with another centre-back and striker as well, depending on what happens with the futures of Christopher Jullien and Albian Ajeti.

One area that is not getting a lot of attention right now is the wings. Mikey Johnston and James Forrest have both struggled with form and fitness in recent years, while Karamoko Dembele departed this summer.

Celtic were linked with Rabbi Matondo, but as reported by SPORT1 (via HITC), he is close to joining Rangers. The transfer fee should be around €3 million.

Matondo is currently with Schalke but he spent the previous season out on loan at Cercle Brugge, where he was quite impressive.

Thus, it was not hard to see why Celtic were linked with the Wales international star but it looks like he is now headed for their Glasgow rivals.

It remains to be seen if the move ends up happening or not. If it does, it would be the Rangers’ fourth signing of the summer.

On the other hand, it will also be very interesting to see if Celtic do end up signing another winger this summer, because that is an area where the Hoops certainly do not have a lot of options at the moment.
